Princesses Need To Be Sexy

Oh, Disney…always creating problems. They have recently debuted a “sexier” version of Merida from Brave in a portrait of all the Disney Princesses. Most of the responses I’ve seen are negative, but there are a few people who see nothing wrong with the new Merida. I just don’t even know where to start. There aren’t major differences, but little ones here and there add up to a problem.

Chapman went on to say, "It’s horrible! Merida was created to break that mold — to give young girls a better, stronger role model, a more attainable role model, something of substance, not just a pretty face that waits around for romance."

Why is Merida’s original image an issue? Why should she need to updated and sexified to be seen alongside the other Disney princesses? Why do the Disney Princesses need to be sexy at all? I just have so many questions about this.

Growing up, I idolized Cinderella and Belle, but even now, I wouldn’t classify them as sexy. Sexiness is not and should be the point of any princess, especially one from Disney. Little girls should not want to grow up and be sexy. I know Disney Princesses are not the perfect role models for girls, of course, but it doesn’t help that Disney wants to sexify them. Really, what is the point of that?

Anyway, what are your thoughts? Do you think her new look is too sexy? Do you care? Let me know.
